Looking for an easy gift idea for friends, family or co-workers? Try wrapping your favorite Chex Party Mix in a colorful tin or bag and personalize it with your own recipe card, which is exactly what my son and I did. While at the store the other day we came across these cute little boxes that look like Chinese take-out for only $1.99.

Gathering Up Ingredients For Our CreationI then searched through all the Chex mix recipes online, because believe it or not I had never made it before! I’ve tried several of the savory recipes but I was in the mood for something sweet and since I was feeling adventurous we came up with our own creation! It was a combo of several other recipes we found on the site. I had already had an idea of what I wanted a few days earlier so while we were at the store we grabbed a few things like: Almond bark, Planters Holiday Nut Mix, Harry & David Honey Roasted Sesame Sticks, Pretzel Sticks and I pulled out a few things from the cupboard and fridge: Dried Cherries, Honey, Brown Sugar, Butter, Semi-Sweet Chocolate.Vincent helping mix up the chex mix

We combined 1/4 cup butter, 1/4 cup honey, 1/4 cup brown sugar in and melted it. We poured it on a mixture of 5 cups Corn Chex, 5 cups Rice Chex, 2 Cups broken-up pretzel sticks, 1 cup dried cherries, 1/2 cup raisins, 1/2 cup almonds, 1/4 cup cashews, 1/2 cup dried blueberries & 1/2 cup honey roasted sesame sticks (Some anxious little boy had spilled the rest just the day before). Here he is mixing it up! (less sticky ingredients –what do you think I’m crazy?)

After adding our chocolate We then put it in the oven on a parchment lined sheet pan for 15 minutes at 300F. Melted 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chunks with 1/4 cup butter on low heat. The mixture had cooled by now so next we added the chocolate and voila! We put our sheet pan in the fridge for 1 hour and let everything cool. (I tried to box it without putting it in the fridge first –that was not a smart idea).

After we pulled it out the chocolate had cooled. We then broke our mix into pieces & put it into our cute little box. Et voila!
