My Son Has Only Been In A Bathtub Twice In His Life

Have I got your attention? Good. That’s what I was hoping for.

Although my almost 3 year old son really has only been in a bathtub twice in all his life, he has bathed in a baby bath. Until over 2 years old. How absurd, right? Especially considering he was born at 10lbs and by the time he was 2 1/2 he was half my size in length. He’s a big boy.

Nowadays I have another boy, he’s almost 6 months old and already he’s beating his older brothers record when it comes to length.

So what’s a mom  to do when she doesn’t own a bathtub and has 2 giant boys? Well, my first son literally had to stay in his baby bath until he could no longer fit, then I had to teach him how to take a shower.. which, for little boys, is not really much fun in the beginning.

I wanna take a bath like other boys

Imagine never taking a bath as a child… no toys floating around, no playing in the bath with your younger siblings, no discovering the joys of painting on the walls. It’s a sad thought, isn’t it? It is for me because as a child one of my favorite memories was bath time. I could spend countless hours in there having fun, until my mom would force me to get out.

I hope one day my sons can experience that. Unfortunately we only have a VERY tiny stand-up shower. We live in a house that I inherited from my Grandmother when she passed away this past summer. The house itself was sitting empty due to family issues with me moving in here, for several years.

When we finally moved in one of the first things I was forced to do was replace the water tank. They run at least $500. The old one had literally rusted away due to all the moisture from lack of ventilation. No fans, no windows, no vents in our bathroom at all. It get’s VERY moist.

On top of it, this last summer when I went to clean off my walk-on porch in the very spot my son was always playing I found serious mold on the floorboards. Luckily I was able to pay someone I know and they came by and replaced them immediately.

Mold on my porch due to my shower leaking

This mold on our porch was caused by the fact my Grandmother had her bathroom remodeled several years ago. She was taken advantage of by a neighbor/contractor who charged her $3000 to install a new plastic shower. PLASTIC.  He removed the “liner” under the old shower and put the new one in. Stand up showers NEED a liner. Water leaked.. .everywhere.  The wall in the shower is shared with our porch.

Right now I have NO CLUE what’s beneath that shower. There is a liner because the contractor was forced by the city to come back and fix the bathroom.  It looks fine to the naked eye but I have a sneaking suspicion that there’s mold underneath there and in the walls.

So where am I going with all this? Well, I am a Semi-Finalist in CSN Stores $10,000 Green and Clean Bathroom Makeover.

I was selected along with 88 other people out of over 9000 entries. I submitted a story, along with photos. The photos on their site don’t show the whole story so I’m telling it here.

My oldest son is about to celebrate his 3rd birthday on April 2nd. I would love more than anything in the world to know that I had support in this and that there’s a possibility I could have my bathroom remodeled by professionals and maybe.. just maybe we can get a bathtub and my two sons can enjoy something that I believe every child in America should be able to enjoy.. a simple, relaxing and fun.. bath. Safe and sound in their mold free home.

Thank you from me and my boys for your consideration. Please let me know you voted so I can personally thank you!

  3. Wow darling! I had no idea that a bathtub could be taken for granted! I missed the voting time and that breaks my heart! However, you guys are in our thoughts and I sure do hope that you get that bathtub for those babies!

  4. No problem, it’s the thought that counts! And yeah, I guess that old saying “You don’t miss it ’til it’s gone” is true!.. even if it applies to a bathtub lol
