A Simple Thank You Can Mean So Much

I’ve talked about my use of Thank-you cards before but I’ll say it again for all my new readers. A simple Thank-you card can mean so much. I’ve been teaching my toddler for quite some time now about how to say thank-you and to send thank-you cards. He’s almost 3 and you can hear him saying such things as “Thank you mommy for make me dinner” or “No thank you”. Every time I hear such a thing it makes my heart skip a beat. I am so proud of the big boy he is becoming.

We have also talked about how we send thank-you cards when someone does something nice for us. I’m always sure to let him participate by coloring inside the card or holding the pen while I help him write his name. I never just do it for him as that would defeat the whole purpose. I want him to actually learn how to do it himself and enjoy it. You never want to make it a chore or you risk losing their interest.

As you know it is our responsibility as parents to instill values in our children. Don’t wait for them to learn it at school or hope that someone else will teach them.  If you’re really busy, which I know a lot of parents are, you can make it easy on yourself and keep a set of cards handy at all times. When you have a little extra time put your address labels on them, stamp them and put them in a drawer so they’re ready to go when you need them. Then you simply have to pull them out and let your child go to town, drop it in a mailbox and you’re done. Remember, there’s always time to say thank you…. and just imagine someday when they’re older and you get your very first thank you card from your children… you’ll know the lesson really sunk in and you’ll be one proud parent.

Start Preparing Your Graduation Announcements Early

Speaking of saying Thank you. It’s almost that time again. Graduation. Last year my brother graduated from high school. We’re 17 years apart! I got a little taste of what it will be like to see my own children up on the stage someday and let me tell you, it was emotional.
