My Quest For Good Health–Day 28 of 28 #Walkabout

Wow, I can’t believe how fast this whole challenge has gone by. I had intended to write every day but I had no idea that going into the final weeks of pregnancy my body was going to demand so much of me. Yeah, with 2 other kids under my belt, who knew, right? Lol. Seems absurd but it’s funny how you so quickly forget that those last few months & weeks can be a challenge.

Walking Together As A Family

My boys and I at the zooMy boys and I have walked almost every single day since the #walkabout. We’ve gone to the zoo, to the park, around the neighborhood. There were a few days that we absolutely couldn’t get out in the beginning because of the rain and cold. 40 degrees with rain is something I could do alone but since my kids come along with me there was no way I could drag them out like that.

On those days I found myself oddly being inspired to keep busy around the house. And other days when it was too cold we incorporated that 1/2 hour of walking into shopping time for the new baby or for preparing. (Although I really overdid myself and walked far longer than 1/2 hour!) To add that extra daily dose of exercise I so badly needed.  Making a commitment really helped me to have motivation.

Orthaheel Walker – Stylish, Comfortable, Affordable

The Orthaheel WalkerSo what have I learned about my Orthaheel shoes along the way? Well, I love, love, love my Orthaheel shoes. They seem to keep my body more in alignment. The heels of the shoe sort of straighten up my posture when I put them on.  I had a hard time adjusting to them at first because I’ve been wearing a very relaxed type of sneaker for the past 10 years, but I knew deep inside that was not what I needed, especially after I found out I had spinal stenosis a few years ago.  My shoes are also very stylish. They came a bit late, after I had officially started the #walkabout so I was kind of worried I wouldn’t like them. It had been a long time since I wore white tennis shoes! Once I put them on though I was sold. I knew right away they fit better than any other walking shoe I’d ever worn. I know, that’s a pretty bold statement, right.

Keeping Fit During Pregnancy

And what have I learned about myself? A lot actually. I have really enjoyed this challenge so much that I continue to keep at it. I have a baby due in probably less than 5 weeks & I’m going to need to walk off those extra pounds.  Thanks to this #walkabout challenge though I have actually managed to lose weight in my 3rd trimester! That means I’ve gained 21 lbs since I became pregnant. A far cry from the 54+ that I gained with my first son and almost all of in the last trimester.

Walking Elevates Mood, So Get Out And Walk!

A beautiful Spring Flower We Found On Our Walk

I am so happy that I was chosen for this. It has really lifted my mood. I realize now that if I just get out and walk even for a half hour each day that I feel so much better physically & emotionally & my children do too! As a stay-at-home mom sometimes I get locked up in the house for too long & it can get you down pretty quickly.

With a challenge to get up or out every single day I was able to work towards something that was good for my whole family & we were able to take in some beautiful scenery along the way which encouraged a lot of discussions.

Continuing the Challenge After Baby – Getting The Weight Off

I hope to continue to blog about this challenge.  I’m going to keep at it until I can keep at it no more! (which means until I have this baby!) and hope beyond hope that once our new little bundle of joy arrives that all 3 of the kids & I can get out and walk all summer long & maybe I can finally work off that baby weight I’m still holding on to from the 1st baby!!

I hope you will continue to support me because I’m really going to need it & I hope by challenging myself after my pregnancy and after this 28 day #walkabout that I can inspire you too!
