CareBears Pacifier Recalled Due to Chocking Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with IDM Group LLC, of New York announced a voluntary recall yesterday, August 23, 2012 of their CareBears™ Pacifiers due to a choking hazard.  The pacifiers fail to meet federal safety standards and the nipples can separate from the base.  These pacifiers were sold at various discount & dollar stores, as well as Walmart Puerto Rico, children’s apparel stores, and Consolidated Stores nationwide from Oct 2009 to June 2012 for about $1.

Recall_carebearsI know sometimes temptations can be great due to pricing but it’s my personal opinion that if at all possible it’s always best to avoid buying baby products like this at dollar stores. There have been several recalls in the past and it’s been shown that a lot of the products sold through dollar stores are made in China. Remember the toy recalls from dollar stores due to lead? That’s not to say these things can’t happen at big retailers as well, but there’s usually less of a chance when you buy from them because they usually only carry reputable brands that specialize in products like this, such as MAM or NUK & not one-off gimmick items. Once again this is just my personal opinion.
