For most people constipation is a topic that’s rarely discussed. Especially among women. 4 1/2 years ago when I was a first time mom I learned about the repercussions of constipation first-hand & what can happen if you don’t take care of yourself, get plenty of fiber, and keep constipation at bay.
I’m going to leave the details for another post on another day because it’s a long story but for now I will tell you this. If you don’t get enough fiber it can literally bite you in the butt & that’s not something you want to have to deal with during or after pregnancy. And yes I’m talking about hemorrhoids. They can come about at any time due to constipation. The fact that you’ve gained weight, your body has slowed down & you are taking prenatal vitamins which usually have iron in them can lead to constipation. It’s something you want to nip in the bud at the first instance because if you’re giving birth vaginally having hemorrhoids can really cause a lot of unneeded pain while you’re recovering. All that pushing some of you have to do, it can make things a lot worse… and unfortunately even when you don’t have to push the baby out if you get them beforehand it can make recovery from a c-section worse. Believe me, I’ve been in both situations.
So, now that we’ve broached the topic of constipation here are a few words from Senokot:
