Shortly before the holidays I was given the chance to try out one of Perdue’s new Oven-ready products. “Oven-Ready” is what really drew me in because as you can imagine there’s always a lot of hustle and bustle around here now that I have 3 children 4 & under. Anything that can save me time I’m open to.

One of the things all my kids can agree on is that they love to eat chicken. We often pick up a rotisserie chicken if we’re out in one of the big box stores because it’s simple & quick. However, I don’t always have time to go to the store & pick one up, especially with 3 kids in tow. Every tried that? It takes a lot of energy.

Perdue Oven-Ready Selection

To be honest I didn’t know anything about the Perdue Oven-Ready product line until I was asked to try it out. The little ones & I headed to the store while the oldest was in preschool to check out what was available. I made sure to check the Perdue websites product locator before I left because wasting precious time is not something I’m fond of. They had whole seasoned roaster chickens, seasoned bone-in chicken breasts, & boneless chicken breasts. I grabbed the whole seasoned chicken & was on my way.

Very Little Preparation Needed

When I checked out the bag I was a bit confused. How was it going to go in the oven when the bag seemed to be made of plastic. Well silly me quickly learned that inside that plastic outer bag was a whole seasoned chicken in a cooking bag, ready to just pop in the oven. I cut a small slit in the middle of the bag, put it in my glass 13×9 dish & threw it in the oven. The chicken has to cook for a little less than 2 hours so I set my timer & that was it!

15 Minutes Prep For An Entire Dinner – Not Bad

About 5 minutes before the chicken was to come out I put our side dish of fresh-frozen veggies & potatoes that I had in the freezer in a pan on the stove-top.  When the buzzer went off I took the chicken out & let it sit for about 10 minutes.  I then opened up the bag, poured out the juices into a measuring cup & used that to make our gravy. Basically it took me about 15 minutes of work for an entire dinner.

The Verdict Is In

So my verdict on the chicken? Well, it was extremely juicy. It seems maybe like they’ve put juices or something under the skin when they seasoned it. The reason I believe that is because the skin wasn’t as crunchy or as brown as when I roast chicken myself, or it might be because it’s in a bag. Either way, let’s be honest, you shouldn’t be eating the skin anyway. Although I can’t deny that I love it.

The meat of this Perdue chicken was probably the most tender chicken meat I’ve ever had & the seasonings were very good. So overall we liked it. I probably won’t buy the whole roasters again because they’re a little bit pricey for me & they’re actually too big for my family to eat. (Most of the time it’s just me & the 2 boys). The whole roasters were ON SALE at around $6.99 when I got mine. That’s still a couple dollars more expensive than buying a roasted chicken at Kroger or Sam’s Club BUT the Perdue roaster definitely was a lot bigger & juicier.  I do intend to try the seasoned bone-in & boneless skinless breasts.  I can dream up endless possibilities with those 2 products & if the meat tastes as great as the whole roaster I’ll definitely add it to my regular rotation.

So, there you have it. My totally unbiased opinion. If you don’t have a lot of time, or even if you’re not a very good cook, check out the line of Perdue Oven-Ready products. Pop them in the oven, throw the evidence away before you serve & no one has to know!
