I have several favorite Hyland’s Homeopathy products that have made a big difference in our lives over the past couple of years. Aside from my love for Hyland’s teething tablet’s the Hyland’s Baby Diaper Ointment is one product I definitely couldn’t live without. Let me tell you why:

Last September my oldest son started preschool for the first time. Shortly after we started being exposed to all sorts of colds & viruses. Things were coming at us left & right. Myself and my children were sick roughly 13 or so times throughout the entire school year. That is NO exaggeration either. I’ve heard it can be bad but it was really downright ridiculous.

During all these illnesses I was also dealing with a 2 year old child who has serious food & dust mite allergies. All of these things combined created a small firestorm. That firestorm landed right on his butt in the form of various diaper rashes.  I had been using Hyland’s Baby Diaper Ointment for a few weeks as our regular ointments didn’t seem to work very well for him and I was able to keep the inevitable diaper rashes at bay. One day however, the ointment came up missing.. and that’s when it all started. The worst rash I ever encountered.

The Never-Ending Diaper Rash

This rash grew from a small one inch, irregularly shaped, raised bump that wouldn’t seem to go away, to something I have never seen in my life. Each day it grew worse. I kept applying different ointments and nothing changed. Not one thing. I have to tell you that I was sort of put in my place at this time because I had always wondered when other moms talked about horrible rashes, how it was allowed to happen. Well let me tell you, sometimes it just happens and it’s out of your control! That’s how. It doesn’t matter how often you change diapers or bathe, it just happens.

So here we are stuck with this awful rash. I took the child to the Dr’s and they told me it was ringworm. WHAT?? How did my child get such a thing I wondered. As you should know, ringworm is not an actual worm, but the same type of infection as athlete’s foot. It’s name depends on what area of the body it’s located on. The Dr. gave us a prescription antibiotic cream for his bottom & we were on our way.

Many days later, empty cream bottle, no real change occurred. Back to the Doctors we went, this time seeing someone else who explained in more detail that the rash was basically a yeast rash & that is why regular ointments would not work on it. Another type of cream was prescribed and we were sent home.

Finally a Solution

After roughly two months of this nonsense and no real change it just so happens that we FOUND the missing Hyland’s Baby Diaper Ointment. At the time I had given up on the prescriptions (which were empty now anyway) and we had been applying a cream called Calmoseptine that was recommended by the pharmacist for about 2-3 days.   The rash started to ease up. However, this Calmoseptine has something like 25% zinc in it. It’s intended mostly for use on adults. It did help to keep most of his butt rash free, but there was still a small area of rash that just wouldn’t go away! It was in the original spot where it had started, it never left.  I immediately went back to using the Hyland’s & amazingly within just a few days the rash was cleared up completely. ALL OF IT. Like it never happened.

The Healing Powers of Calendula

I have done a ton of research on this subject & I have discovered that Calendula, which is the main ingredient in Hyland’s Baby Diaper Ointment has been a natural remedy for yeast, for centuries. Calendula is actually a flower & I have grown it in my garden for years without even knowing. It’s sometimes referred to as marigold.  Hyland’s Baby Diaper Ointment also contains lanolin, which is well known for it’s waterproofing properties, and petrolatum, also very well-known for it’s healing properties. The combination of all 3 of those things seemed to be what was keeping his problem in check all the months before we lost the tube. I had never really known it’s value until we stopped using it.  It really is my opinion that had we just kept using the Hyland’s we never would have had to go through all of this. Of course there’s no real way to know that for sure, but using my mommy instincts I believe that to be the case.

Since this time we’ve used Hyland’s Baby Diaper Ointment the moment any type of rash crops up and we’ve been rash free.  That is why I love & can’t live without Hyland’s Baby Diaper Ointment and recommend it to everyone I know.

Have you tried Hyland’s Baby Diaper Ointment yourself? What do you think of it?
