“We struggled with infertility for 5 years and on our 3rd and final round of IVF we heard the best sounds ever…2 perfect and strong heartbeats. My pregnancy was great until the day before delivery. Due to being pregnant with twins and deemed high risk I saw my OB plus a perinatalogist. That morning we went to my OB appointment and I was begging my OB to move up my C Section as I was as big as a house. She just laughed and said she could only change it if there was a medical reason. I waddled out and my husband took me to lunch before our next appointment of that day. The Perinatologist started the exam and then got serious. Asked me questions if my OB ran tests that morning then excused himself to call her. When he returned I was told to go get my stuff and head to the hospital. Apparently I had developed Preeclampsia in 3 short hours.

That night was spent getting blood drawn and constant blood pressure checks and on Friday 3/1 at 7am my OB came in and told me we were going to be parents at noon. Shock, excitement and terror all at once but we were ready.

Delivery went smooth and both girls were perfect, tiny but perfect. Sophia Richele was born at 12:48pm weighing 5lbs 2oz and Charlotte Michele was born at 12:49pm weighing 4lbs 4oz. That is when things took a turn. My blood pressure was 160/100 and I was taken from recovery back to my room and put on Magnesium drip for 24 hours. I was unable to even string together a sentence let alone take care of my babies. My husband had to take care of 2 infants for their first night while I lay helplessly in my hospital bed. Finally after 28 hours postpartum I held my beautiful daughters. My OB still jokes that I am her only patient that willed herself to get sick just to move up a C Section.”
