Heart disease runs in my family. In fact, not 10 feet from where I’m typing this, my Grandfather died of a heart attack. I am reminded daily.  That’s one of the many reasons after having children that I have decided to take steps to get healthy. That includes heart healthy.  I’ve struggled since I was a young adult with my weight, and in the past made a lot of questionable choices. But now, I’m a little less naïve, and a lot more willing to put in the effort it takes to get & keep myself in better shape. I want to be a positive role model for my children & I definitely want to be around for a long time to watch them grow.

There are many ways I try to keep myself & my family heart healthy. Things like fast food are a special occasion these days, and eating at home is the norm. I’ve always been a stickler for incorporating just about every food group into our meals, especially dinner. They don’t always eat it! but it is offered.  As a kid my grandparents grew a garden so I was always exposed to a lot of different vegetables, which I love & I am trying to teach my children to love.  So we try to do less red meat, more veggies & when we do eat meat I try to substitute things like ground turkey for hamburger when I can. Sometimes I get away with it, sometimes I don’t! It’s all trial & error, but at least I know we are moving in the right direction.  After all I don’t want my children to grow up with some of the bad eating habits I did. I may have loved veggies but I loved a lot of junk too!

Speaking of moving, we love to dance, which is great for your heart. The kids & I get out the Wii all the time & we dance together. They don’t know it but they’re getting a great workout. It’s been the perfect routine for us during this long winter.

When it’s nice outside we also walk the 2 miles total back & forth to school each day. When I arrive back home I always feel ready to start my day. I’m looking forward to Spring when we can do that again.

I figure at my age & with the experience I have now I have no excuses & I owe it to my children to teach them all about these small things so that they might take better care of their bodies than I did for a long time, and make better choices. All that being said, I’ve gathered the following 5 super delicious American Heart Association certified recipes that feature Campbell’s for you.
