Breastfed babies may develop stronger lungs according to recent study

Results from a recent study of 10-year-olds on the Isle of Wight by Brtish and US scientists found much better lung function in babies that were breastfed for at least four months. A total of 1,456 babies were followed all the way through to their 10th year to test this. A third of them had been breastfed for at least four months, and on average, these children could blow out more air after taking a…

Carter’s baby clothes may cause rash

So I’m sitting here catching up on the news on CNN, like always and what do I see? “Feds warn Carter’s baby clothes may cause rash”. Great! considering 75% of my babies clothes come from Carter’s. Just what I needed with a son who has super sensitive skin. But, it’s not as bad as it may seem. Apparently it’s the fall 2007 line and that only includes approximately 110 million articles of clothing! Needless to…

Palin heightens rhetoric on abortion

Make of it what you will, this is a touchy subject so I’m just going to share the story with you without any comments from myself. From CNN: “Palin opposes abortion in all cases, including rape and incest, except when a mother’s life is in danger, and said she believes Roe v. Wade should be overturned and the decision given to the states. McCain voted for the Prohibit Partial Birth Abortion bill in 2003 and…

Angelina Jolie shown breastfeeding on magazine cover

Angelina Jolie appears on the cover of W’s November issue, while breastfeeding.  Good for her, she looks beautiful. After strolling through many blogs I came upon a lot of negative feedback. I truly can’t believe in this day and age there could be such negative responses to something as simple as a mother shown breastfeeding on a cover of a magazine, that something so innocent and natural could be misconstrued as anything other than a…

Pregnant women need flu shots

According to a blog on Cnn the CDC and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommend that women who will be pregnant during the flu season, get a flu shot. I don’t know exactly how I feel about that but I do know that I was completely unaware that it was recommended. A little more than 6 months ago when I gave birth to my son, I did so while having the flu. Let…

Count your blessings

An excerpt taken from an article on BBC. “In valleys and villages across Badakshan, a province located in the Hindu Kush mountain range, such stories are common. Maternal mortality, when a woman dies during or shortly after pregnancy, is believed to be the highest in the world here. According to statistics published by the UN in 2002, the province had the highest rate of mortal maternity ever recorded. For almost 16 babies born, one woman…

My Fake Baby on BBC

Tonight on BBC America I just happened to catch part of a program that dealt with women who care for life like babies. Talk about strange…. These babies look so life like it’s amazing. I watched a program long ago about men who buy life-like dolls of women and that was pretty understandable to me, but this just seems to be too sad and strange. One woman they showed was in a store buying Roberto…
