Flicka, Ricka, Dicka and Their New Skates takes you back to a simpler time, into the lives of 3 Swedish triplets on Christmas morning. They find fun & bit of adventure when they have to save their friend Bertie after an ice-skating disaster. The book is beautifully illustrated throughout by the author.

In Another Place, In Another Time

When I opened up Flicka, Ricka, Dicka  I was pleasantly surprised. It really transported me back to the past. Although this book was originally published in 1950, which was way before my time.. it really reminded me of all the books I owned during my own childhood. I instantly fell in love with it.  Of course I have another reason to love the book and that’s because the girls, Flicka, Ricka, and Dicka  live in Sweden.  My sons are half Norwegian and I’ve been to Sweden and Norway many times.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

I know a lot of my readers are a lot younger than me but I also know some of you are a lot older.. and it’s the older ones that probably fondly remember playing with their paper dolls as a little girl. I used to absolutely love paper dolls. To me they were just as great as my barbie dolls.  The Flicka, Ricka, Dicka book actually comes with old style paper dolls.  They come with 3 matching outfits (they are triplets after all!). There’s a dog and a few other things as well and there is a special slot in the back of the book to hold them. Although I would be tempted to keep them more for nostalgia’s sake I know there are some little girls out there that would really be fascinated with them.

For Kids Young & Old Alike

Besides your children I would also highly recommend this book to someone in your family that’s older, maybe your Mom or your Grandma, or an Aunt. You may think it sounds silly but I think they’d get a real kick out of it. They may even be familiar with the book, as many others like it were written as well. It was one in a series.  There were also 3 little Swedish boy triplets called Snipp, Snapp & Snurr.
