Omaha Steaks Review & Giveaway ($20 gift certificate)

For Christmas this past year because my husband doesn’t like ham and we had just eaten a turkey at Thanksgiving, I took a big chance and made a prime rib roast. Most people are well aware of just how much they can cost. They’re extremely pricey. They usually go on sale around the holidays and if you’re really lucky you can snag one without going broke. Around here we have very few places to buy meat, hence the “lucky”. When I went to buy mine there were literally 5 left and I have not seen hide nor hair of a prime rib roast in any of the stores I frequent since that day. Our meat departments simply don’t put them out…. and butchers? they’re unheard of around here. No kidding.

A few months after Christmas I found myself craving prime rib. I didn’t want to go out to eat and spend a fortune so when the chance presented itself I ordered a prime rib on Omaha Steaks. I took advantage of a deal Mastercard Marketplace had that offered to give me a refund on part of the money spent. Even though I wanted a prime rib I spent a countless number of hours searching the Omaha Steaks site, dreaming about all the stuff I wanted to order in the future. In the end I went ahead and got a prime rib, cooked it up and had delicious left-overs for a very long time. Because I’m extremely frugal it was nice to give in and treat ourselves to something scrumptious other than during the holidays.

It was also great that ordering went off without a hitch and my box of food arrived well packaged in a special foam box with dry ice. I was very happy with the overall experience. That’s why when I was asked if I wanted to review some of their other products I jumped at the chance.

This time it was something I probably wouldn’t have chosen on my own. Chicken Cordon Bleu, Twice Baked Potatoes, & Green Beans with Red Peppers. Although I do love chicken cordon bleu it had been ages since I had it. I’ve been stocking up on chicken kiev for the past year from Schwans so I was excited to see the difference. We received the following:

  • 4 (8 oz.) Breast of Chicken Cordon Bleu
  • 4 (5.75 oz.) Stuffed Baked Potatoes
  • 2 (6.5 oz. trays) Green Beans With Red Peppers

This is my actual plate below.  That’s 1/2 a serving of chicken cordon bleu.

Chicken Cordon Bleu

The Chicken Cordon Bleu, made with boneless, skinless breast of chicken and stuffed with delicious Swiss and American cheese was extremely good. I loved the crust and my 3 year old, who is a huge fan of ham & cheese ate his faster than I could cut it.  The chicken is a very big portion. I actually split mine with my son.

Twice Baked Potatoes

The twice baked potatoes looked so yummy after they were cooked that my 3 year, who refuses to eat any potatoes except french fries decided he had to give it a shot. Unfortunately after he bit into it he realized it really was a potato. Just a lot prettier than the ones mom makes. That meant there was an extra one for me though and I didn’t hesitate to gobble it up.

Green Beans with Red Peppers

Now, I’m not a big fan of green beans. When I was younger at least once a week I was fed canned french style green beans. Just that is enough to make you never eat them again. However, these are fresh frozen green beans and the taste is pretty darn good. I guess it was the red peppers and onions & the butter mixture. I actually enjoyed eating these beans, and so did the baby! Since they had so little ingredients (he has food allergies) we were able to share them with him. He loved them so much he carried one around for half the night.

Perfect For Holiday Meals… or Any Day of The Week

Overall I loved the dinner. It was extremely easy to cook. You just put the chicken in the oven from a frozen state and it only takes about 35 minutes. The potatoes take about 40 and the green beans can go straight in the microwave for about 3 minutes.  There was absolutely no prep and very little to clean up when we were done besides our dishes! That’s the kind of dinner I like.

The Chicken Cordon Bleu Dinner would be perfect for a small family during the holidays. Maybe even Christmas Eve or New Years Eve if you don’t want to be bothered with cooking all day and want to conserve your energy.
