What’s Lurking Under Your Sink? Shaklee Cleaning Products Review & Giveaway #GetClean (Now Closed)

Shaklee Get Clean Starter Kit (Full size)

With a new babies arrival just around the corner I’ve been trying to get my house as organized as possible. Pretty hard when I already have 2 little ones that can destroy it in 5 minutes flat. One thing I recently did was get under my kitchen & bathroom sink & start throwing out all the old chemicals and cleaners I had in there. Even though I’ve been reviewing tons of green cleaners for the past couple of years I still had some old stuff lurking around that I knew was toxic and just couldn’t bring myself to throw it all away. Being frugal I hate to waste things. I finally did it a few weeks ago just before I received a Shaklee Get Clean cleaning kit like the one you see above, and to be honest I feel much better with less to worry about.

#GetClean

I still have quite a few things under my sinks but now it’s almost all green cleaners. So why would I want to try yet another product? Well Shaklee challenged me to look under my sink and see what I’d find. Thankfully since I threw out most of my old stuff I didn’t find much in way of toxic chemicals but sad thing is even after throwing away all the products I thought were toxic I still found more that were! It was an eye opener.

Shaklee Cleaning Products

When I received the info about Shaklee products I had never heard of them, another reason I really wanted to put them to the test. The other? They’re endorsed by one of my most favorite organizations, Healthy Child, Healthy World. Shaklee has a full line of natural and nontoxic cleaning choices that are Safe for You, Your Home, and Your Planet® called Get Clean®. which have some great selling points:

  • No harmful fumes or hazardous chemicals.
  • Outperforms 20 national leading brands.
  • You would spend $3400 for ready to use cleaners to get the same amount of clean found in the Get Clean Starter Kit!*
  • Features Basic H2® Organic Super Cleaning Concentrate – just 1/4 tsp. makes 16oz. of all-purpose cleaner for only 3 cents.
  • When you purchase the Get Clean Starter Kit you also make a positive impact on the planet:
    • Keep 108 pounds of packaging waste from landfills.
    • Eliminate 248 pounds of greenhouse gas.
    • Passing on one Get Clean kit to a friend is the equivalent of planting 10 trees

* Based on comparing number of uses as set forth on product labels of conventional, ready-to-use cleaners.

How do Shaklee Cleaning Products Perform?

I had set out to try all the products I received one by one but when I went to clean out underneath my sink the second time I discovered a huge leak and tons of standing water in the back! Since I’m pregnant and absolutely huge at the moment I don’t’ bend all the way down & actually look in there so it was a pretty horrible surprise.

Shaklee Window Cleaner

Although I haven’t gotten around to trying all of the Shaklee products (since everything under the sink was sitting out while my cupboards dried out for days) I have tried some of them, and one I wanted to mention the most was the window cleaner. Window cleaner is one product that I hadn’t changed out to a “green” version after all these years so I was very happy to see that Shaklee had this.

You simply fill a 16oz bottle (which they include in their kit) with water and add in 1-2 drops of the Basic H2. I couldn’t believe how easy it was to mix up.  The Basic H2 comes in a  16 oz bottle (like the one you see to the left) but creates an unbelievable 48 gallons of super-safe, really powerful, all purpose cleaner. Depending on how it’s mixed it’s used as window cleaner, all-purpose cleaner, or a degreaser.

In the kit comes a Get Clean Super Microfiber Window Cloth. You use this and the window cleaner together. It worked just as well as my regular window cleaner that I’ve been relying on all my life! I was pleasantly surprised AND the thing is you can buy the Basic H2 & mix up bottle after bottle after bottle of the window cleaner. It could virtually last forever lol, at least for me.. and the Basic H2 only cost $12.15!

After I tried out the window cleaner of course I was curious to see if the degreaser would work well on my stove-top, and it did. It worked fantastic and there were no horrible smells related to the cleaner at all. I’m not big on fragrances so it was perfect for me.

So far so good. I’m really impressed with the amount of cleaners you can make with just a few simple Shaklee products & who could argue the price? Cleaners are expensive! I especially love that everything in the kit takes up such little space! You can see from my pic below that almost everything fits nicely in the little carrier that comes with the kit.

What’s Lurking Under Your Sink?

Why don’t you give it a try? Check out some of the products under your sink and see if they contain any of the following chemicals:

kerosene, phenols, cresol, lye, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, sulfuric acid, petroleum distillates, ammonia, sodium hydroxide, butyl cellosolve, phosphoric acid, formaldehyde, chlorine bleach, morpholine, phthalates?

You can also have a look at the household data base (http://hpd.nlm.nih.gov/) and look up some of the products you use for information on what they contain and how harmful it may be.

Chances are you’re going to find something with one of the above chemicals and when you do you might want to check out the Shaklee website and switch over to something greener, especially if you have kids. I know I’m glad I discovered them and I look forward to using them for ages to come.
