What Brings You Comfort and Joy?

Twittermoms

Twittermoms have teamed up with Kleenex to ask bloggers “What brings you comfort and joy in your life”.  I bet before you even finished reading that sentence you knew what I was going to say. My kids of course, but along with my kids there is also someone else that helps bring comfort and joy to my life.

I have an incredibly tiny family. My mom and Dad were never married and so I have brothers on my Dad’s side that I don’t know very well and in fact I had never even met my own father until I was around 20 years old. My mom was married when I was 10 and with that came a brother and sister. My sister has moved away and my brother is now in the Marines. I also lost my Grandmother this year which is still incredibly hard for me seeing as I live in her house and  on top of that I just passed the 15th anniversary of my Grandfather’s death.   My husband, he’s not so lucky either. His family lives all the way in Norway. He only has one sister and they no longer speak, as a matter of fact he’s never met most of his nieces and nephews because he has been here in America with me for almost 7 years now.

When we decided to start a family of our own, with such little support I really didn’t know where it would lead us. I thought that it would be incredibly easy and that life would be grand and everyone would rally around us and celebrate with us. That did happen to an extent and it did help mend some relationships but in the end it was just “us”. My husband, my son and myself.

Then came my second son just 2 months ago. My little family has grown and to be honest it’s been a real adjustment. My husband works away from the home all week long. He’s basically only home on Saturday’s and well, we’ve been having our own problems. I can’t say that it hasn’t been an absolute blessing though. My two sons bring such incredible joy to my life every single day I am with them.

So you’re probably wondering who else it could possibly be that means so much to me. Well, her name is Angel and we’ve been friends for 20 years. She used to be my neighbor. It’s ironic because I was actually very mean to her at first. I’m pretty sure she realizes I’ve gotten it all back over the years though! lol.  Anyway, she’s my best friend. She’s one of my only true friends on this earth.  We haven’t always been together 24/7 but it has and will always be a relationship where if one of us get’s lost along the way we can pick up the phone and start again right where we left off.  We’ve had our own very unique adventures in life but one thing is certain since I had my first child. She has been there for me. Without fail she is the only person I can count on.  I am so incredibly lucky to have her. She babysits for me. She listens to me complain. She disagrees with me! Something not a lot of people have the guts to do since I’m so outspoken. She also doesn’t get annoyed at me. She doesn’t huff and puff, she doesn’t roll her eyes at me, although she’s seen me do that one too many times. And I hope to God that she has forgiven me for the way I treated her so long ago.

I wrote this post to tell her how incredibly thankful I am for her. So, Angel. Best friend. You are like a sister to me and if there’s anyone in this world besides my children that brings me comfort and joy, it’s you. I am truly thankful for you. More than you ever know.  I hope that just as I have been blessed you will be too some day. Maybe not with children but with everything you want in life. Everything you need, and I hope no matter what happens you’ll always be near. I don’t know how I’d live my life without such support.  Thank you for all you’ve ever done for me. I love you. *Goes to grab a kleenex*
