Or the obvious reasons why I wouldn’t want my toddler touching the keyboard after his dad, who as a truck driver travels around the country, touching who knows what in dirty rest stops?  Of course they both know how to wash their hands, but both also suffer from bouts of forget-fullness, and it’s impossible to police them 24/7.

On the other hand I have my own bad habits that I’ve picked up over the years. Like most of you, I eat at my desk. Within the past 15 years of hanging out online I must have dropped every type of food you can imagine on and in my keyboard. Try getting yogurt out from underneath the keys on your keyboard. Results of Independent Study Show Washing Keyboards Reduces High Levels of Bacteria

A study was done on SpillSeal keyboards by an independent laboratory in the UK, where keyboards are often used in hospital settings. The lab contaminated several keys, that were identified as the most difficult ones to disinfect, with high levels of Staphylococcus Aureus.They then left the keyboards at an ambient room temperature for 1 hour. After the hour was up they used several different methods to clean the keyboards.

After washing by immersing and agitating the keyboard (by moving about and pressing the keys) and standing without rinsing or drying for 2 minutes. They found:

  • Washing in water alone reduced the levels of staph by 86.29%
  • Washing in water with a 10% antibacterial soap solution reduced levels of staph by 98.32%
  • Washing with a solution of water and hospital grade disinfectant reduced levels by 100%

    I don’t need to purchase keyboard canned air dusters. I can just wash the keyboard as necessary.
    I would say that I am the messiest with the keyboard! I don’t eat in our home office, but I always have a drink with me.

    I like that the keyboard has tightly sealed casings because that’s the biggest problem that I have with my keyboard, things get stuck in between the keys and no matter how much I clean, I can’t get everything out. My brother is the messiest, he always eats over the keyboard!

    I would love this. I’m a germ a phobe. I love that it is so easy to clean! I use the computer the most at our house so I’m responsible for all the the crumbs that get caught in it from time to time.

    Our cats are the filthiest ones who touch the keyboard. LOL Seriously, I would be more likely to use this keyboard at work, where anyone can come up and use my computer if I’m not there.

    It’s a toss up between my granddaughter and myself. We have both been known to snack/eat at the keyboard. I am so over trying to get stuff out with a toothpick, washable sounds mighty good.

    My daughter comes home from school and gets right on the computer without washing her hands. After shes done I wipe the keyboard down with an antibacterial wipe even though your not supposed too. Just thinking about all the germs she brings home from school grosses me out.

    I have to say that I’m the messiest person using the keyboard as I am the one who uses it most often. Of course that isn’t counting the cats who regularly have to sit between me and the monitor, usually on the keyboard.

    I have had my kids come to my desk and spill my coffee on the keyboard several times. My toddler likes to sit on my lap when I am on the computer and he drops food on my keyboard many times.

    I love that this keyboard can be washed! I am probably the messiest person when it comes to the keyboard because I use the computer the most and I do eat and drink at the desk even though I know I shouldn’t.
