Must See – Cartoon Network’s Firebreather Coming to DVD and Blu-Ray–March 22, 2011

Cartoon Network’s first ever original CGI movie Firebreather will be released tomorrow, March 22, 2011 on Dvd and Blu-Ray.

You may have seen it already as it it premiered on Cartoon Network on November 24, 2010. The action-packed movie attracted 3.7 million persons ages 2 and up – beating all other television networks by double digits and winning the night.

Based on the comic book series written by Phil Hester and Andy Kuhn, Firebreather follows 16-year-old Duncan (Jesse Head, Summerland, So Little Time) who is half-human and half-Kaiju – a race of ancient, powerful creatures.  His overprotective human mom (Dana Delany, Tombstone, Desperate Housewives) wants him to lead a normal life while not so human Dad  (Kevin Michael Richardson, The Cleveland Show, Ben 10 Ultimate Alien) wants him to take over the world!

He’s also the new kid in school, suffering the problems of your average teenager, like trying to make new friends and having bad luck with girls  –  all while dealing with orange skin and an appetite for coal instead of sandwiches. Oh and did I mention that just like dear old dad, he can breathe fire?

I had every intention of watching this with my oldest son, who is only 3.. that is until he ran from the room totally freaked out..nonetheless, enthralled. During the course of the first 10 minutes he returned several times excited to watch it, only to run away again screaming “Dragon!”. That’s when I  used my better judgment and decided that this movie just isn’t for your average Dora fan and waited until he went to bed.

The moment the movie began I couldn’t believe how great it looked. I mean just check out the screenshot above. The graphics are absolutely stunning. It looked fantastic on our plasma TV and I was only watching the dvd, not the blu-ray. I can’t imagine how awesome that looks.

You won’t get much more info from me out of it because if you missed it on Cartoon Network I don’t want to spoil it. If you have any pre-teens or teenagers in the house or even adults that are familiar with the original comic you have to get this.  It’s rated PG and directed by Peter Chung (Aeon Flux), written by Jim Krieg and executive produced by Julia Pistor (Lemony Snicket’s a Series of Unfortunate Events). With contributors like that you know you’re in for something special.
