Clorox Green Works Review

As you know I have reviewed a lot of cleaning products on this blog. Mostly green cleaners. Well recently I signed up through Mom Bloggers Club to review the Clorox Green Works products. I’ve been aware of them for a couple of years now but to be honest with you I never really gave them a fair chance. I occasionally use Clorox’s non-green products and have relied on them for years to disinfect my house. I have absolutely nothing against Clorox. Maybe it’s because throughout my life I’ve always associated Clorox with bleach and a strong smell. I made a concerted effort to try to start going green 3 years ago when I had my first child due to all the harsh chemical smells and reactions I had to them. When I signed up to review these products I decided that instead of forming an opinion on the Clorox Green Works line before trying them I would actually give them a shot and share my experience with my fellow Moms. Because after all that is the right thing to do.

I’ve been using the following Green Works products for the past 2 weeks:

  • Green Works® Naturally Derived Cleaning Wipes pack some serious cleaning power and are made with naturally derived ingredients, such as citric acid and wood fibers. That means they won’t give off harsh chemical fumes or leave behind harsh chemical residue.  And they can be thrown in compost bin after using, since they’re 100 percent biodegradable. These wipes are safe for use on most non-wood surfaces, including acrylic, fiberglass and vinyl.

  • Green Works® Naturally Derived All-Purpose Cleaner powers through grease, grime and dirt without leaving behind harsh chemical fumes or residues. Green Works All Purpose Cleaner is safe to use on multiple surfaces throughout the kitchen and bathroom, including counters, appliances, stainless steel, sealed granite, chrome, cooktop hoods, sinks and toilets.

  • Green Works® Laundry Detergent is tough on dirt and stains — and dermatologist-tested for sensitive skin. The powerful combination of naturally derived cleaning ingredients will leave laundry fresh and clean — without phosphates, optical brighteners or harsh chemical residue. The detergent is formulated for both standard and high-efficiency (HE) washers.

  • Green Works® Naturally Derived Bathroom Cleaner is made with plant- and mineral-based cleaning ingredients that power through soap scum, rust and hard water stains — without harsh chemical fumes and residue. It works powerfully on bathroom counters, sinks, bathtubs, tile and shower doors, removing tough soap scum.

My Personal Opinion and Experience

I definitely decided the product I like the most is the laundry detergent. I didn’t know it even existed. It’s safe for sensitive skin and it passed my test. I had no reaction to it at all which is great. I can’t use some of the more popular detergents because I start getting hives and itching. There was no such thing with this detergent. I also loved the smell and it got our clothes clean.

The household cleaners did a good job and worked well. I’m still partial to another product I use regularly simply because it is an all-purpose cleaner and it can be diluted if I choose. This might be something for Clorox to consider in the future.

I have to say that I also love that the wipes are compostable. This isn’t something I currently do but I have thought about it many times and I hope to be able to compost in the future.  It makes me feel better knowing that all those wipes won’t just be sitting in a landfill somewhere. That’s one of the reasons I currently use them very rarely.

The one thing I am disappointed about is the use of sodium lauryl sulfate in some of the products (not all of them as far as I can see). I know a lot of companies are still trying to work out how to exclude this ingredient as it’s somewhat important, but it’s also something I’ve chosen to try to avoid when purchasing green products. Hopefully Clorox is working on an active solution to this.

My overall opinion is that Clorox has done a good job at making a green line of products. They work well and they’re reasonably priced. I look forward to trying their non-chlorine bleach and their dish detergent next.
