Baby Einstein Discovery Kits Review & Giveaway

babyeinsteinlogo

I have been a fan of Baby Einstein since my oldest son was born 2 1/2 years ago. It’s almost guaranteed that you’ve seen some of their work. They have a huge variety of products such as toys, books, activity centers and CD’s.  I think we own more Baby Einstein stuff around here than any other brand. So far I’ve been pleased with everything I’ve purchased. That’s why when I was invited to review one of the new Baby Einstein Discovery Kits and to attend a virtual roundtable to discuss the kits with Baby Einsteins Development expert, Dr. Karen Hill-Scott and general manager Susan McLain just last month I was thrilled.

This was the first time I had a chance to view one of the Baby Einstein DVD’s. We checked out Baby Mozart which is a Level 1 kit, which will be appropriate for Aidan once he reaches maybe 4 months. My 2 yr old was definitely not interested in it. He did enjoy the music though! and so did I. It was a nice change from all the cartoons and shows my 2 yr old is interested in that involves loud singing, dancing and jumping around. It brought a calm over the household. If I could I’d play it all day long I would!  The book on the other hand was even of interest to my 2 yr old who of course doesn’t know how to read yet. The CD is perfect for the car or for background music while doing other activities in the house. I have always loved classical music. I first introduced my oldest to it while still in the womb. I’m married to a musician and I myself took music classes for many years so it is certainly something close to my heart and something I want my children to be interested in. I really believe the music in the kits is something anyone of any age would find enjoyable.

More About Baby Einstein Discovery Kits

“The first six Discovery Kits in the new collection each feature a DVD, a music CD and a picture book or Discovery Cards. With each element complementing the others, the new kits give parents another way to interact with their babies.

Representing a new path for the company as Baby Einstein continues to listen to and evolve with today’s parents, the Baby Einstein DVDs will now only be available at retail as part of the Baby Einstein Discovery Kits.

The new Discovery Kits encourage parents to take what they and their little one have seen on screen, in the book or on the Discovery Cards, or listened to on the CD and apply it to baby’s everyday life.  They were created to grow with babies and are organized in a way that offers three distinct levels of discovery:

Level 1:  Experience

Baby Beethoven Discovery Kit & Baby Mozart Discovery Kit both include a DVD, Book, Music CD and Parents’ Guide.

Level 2:  Explore

Wild Animal Safari Discovery Kit & Animals Around Me Discovery Kit both include a DVD, Discovery Cards, Music CD and Parents’ Guide.

Level 3: Expression

World of Colors Discovery Kit & World of Words Discovery Kit both include a DVD, Book, Music CD and Parents’ Guide.

The first six Discovery Kits are available for purchase as of  November 23, 2010 and three additional Discovery Kits will be available in early 2011. The Baby Einstein Discovery Kits have a U.S. suggested retail price of $19.99 and a suggested retail price in Canada of $24.99 CAD.

A Few Excerpts From the Q & A Session

Q: How many new titles will be available in 2011 to add to these about to be released?

A: – Susan McLain: We are planning to release three more kits in February with more kits planned for release in the fall. You can find out more about our February kits on babyeinstein.com

Q: Are you planning on making a series of targets for toddlers ages 2-3?

A: – Susan McLain: There is nothing confirmed at the moment however, we are constantly evaluating and exploring new product opportunities.

Q: I read in the press release that the Baby Einstein DVDs will only be available in the Discovery Kits from now on, what will happen to the current DVDs? Will the rest of them be made into discovery kits also?

A: – Susan McLain: We will only be offering Discovery Kits going forward. Our best titles and feature shows will make up some of the future Discovery Kits.

Q: What age groups are the series geared towards. I see that there are three levels, are each geared towards a specific age group?

A: – Dr. Karen Hill-Scott: Each level is really okay to watch for all infants. But as babies develop, their behavior will indicate which title is a good match for their interests. We think Level 1, Experience, will be most enjoyed by babies who are looking, listening and simply absorbing the experiences presented by the world around them. Babies who are physically moving around, and showing an interest in touching, grabbing and playing with toys and people will enjoy Level 2, Explore. And Level 3, Expression, is likely to be most enjoyed by babies who really like colors, or enjoy listening to stories and rhymes or who enjoy movement and dance.
